The ancestral home of the Netaji Birth Place Museum, Janakinath Bhawan, is situated in Oriya Bazar, Cuttack, Orissa.Subhas Bose was born in this house on September 23, 1897, and he spent his childhood in Cuttack. He lived in this home with an extended family consisting of eight brothers and six sisters. Janaki Nath Bose, his father, was a lawyer and a prominent figure in his era. Subhas Bose successfully passed the entrance examination for Ravenshaw Collegiate School in 1913 and then moved to Calcutta to continue his studies.
The museum contains 22 original letters written by Netaji from various locations, including Geneva, Milan, Myanmar, Mandalay Jail, Rangoon Jail, Presidency Jail, Alipore New Central Jail in Calcutta, and Berlin, addressed to his parents and family members. The ancestral home, where Netaji was born and raised until he completed his schooling, has now been converted into a museum.
