Kandhamal Tourism

Kandhamal District is located in the heart of Odisha, India, stretching between 19°34′ and 20°36′ north latitude and 83°34′ and 84°34′ east longitude, covering an area of 7,649 sq. km. The district headquarters are situated in Phulbani. Established on January 1, 1994, Kandhamal was previously known as the Boudh-Kandhamal or Phulbani district.

Kandhamal’s history dates back to the 3rd century BC, when it was considered an unconquered Atavika country. During the Maurya period, the mountainous Atavika region became known as Kandhamal, named after the indigenous Khond people who inhabited the land. Today, Kandhamal offers visitors a glimpse into its rich cultural heritage and natural wonders.
