Malkangiri Tourism
Malkangiri was declared a separate district on October 2, 1992, before which it was part of the Koraput district. It is also where the headquarters of the District sits. This district is now home to a significant population of the refugees from Bangladesh, rehabilitated during 1965 with the inception of the Dandakaranya Project.
This district is rich in stunning attractions such as Balimela Dam, Bonda Ghati, which is the habitation of the Bonda tribe, and Satiguda Dam. The Bonda tribe is often considered to be the most vulnerable tribe in this country. Malkangiri is also home to a power generation station right at Balimela. The corridor road connecting Vijaywada to Ranchi will also pass through this district.

The climate of the District is tropical, characterized by hot-dry summers and pleasantly mild winters. Summer runs from March till mid-June, followed by the rainy season, which extends from June to September. Winters are from November to February.
