Naganatheswar Shiva temple is located in the town of “Nagena,” around 20 kilometers from Dhenkanal. Built in the middle of the Keshari line, it is the oldest Saiva sanctuary. It is one of the twelve Yotir lingas, as experts have shown in Pandit Nagendranath Mohapatras’s Naganath satakam. One of the Jyotirlingas is said to be in the Daruka-Vana or Neem wilderness according to the “Awashyotirlinga” stotras. The neem woods remain on the property. Yes, even Harisingh Vidyadhar, the owner of the fragmented sanctuary of Dhenkanal for Lord Naganath’s darshan.
The southernmost region of the Anga Kingdom is where the Naganath sanctuary is situated, according to the Dwadasha Jyotirlinga sloka. It illustrates how, under certain historical conditions, a portion of Kalinga touched the Anga fringe. That being said, there is the still-unidentified post’s debris nearby. This is where the holy Brahmani stream, as holy as the Ganga, swings to the north.
