The Lord Shiva Baba Jhadeswar Temple is situated about 1 km from Jharsuguda Railway Station. This place houses a rather mysterious self-manifested Sivalingam, the original date of which is not known. It is a very old temple dedicated to the cult of Shiva in Odisha. According to history during King Govind Singh’s reign, the Sivalingam used to get puja in a hay hut in Jharsuguda.
A Gujarati contractor, Mulju Jagmal, built a small temple there in 1916. The Jarnindar of Jharsuguda arranged Savayats for daily worship and donated agricultural lands for the sustenance of the temple and puja. Lord Jhadeswar Mandir is a famous temple in Jharsuguda, Odisha.
Adjacent to Lord Shiva, the Shree Jhadeswar temple is home to the Maa Durga temple, Hanuman temple, pond, and a garden of exceptional beauty. Mahashivaratri is the temple’s main festival, which attracts a large number of devotees. Jhadeswar mandir is one of the tourist spots in Jharsuguda. The Jhadeswar Temple is built according to traditional Odia temple architecture and possesses intricate carvings with a peaceful ambiance.
Even though the temple is a little less elaborate compared to the other grander temples of Odisha, its sanctity and beautiful surroundings make it a much sought-after destination by both pilgrims and tourists. Apart from religious tourists, the temple also entices tourists who are keen on experiencing the culture and heritage of Odisha.
