Kartika Month Calendar (October-November) 2025

Kartika month comes sometime between the last month of October and the first week of November (it is typically in October, but this year, it will be in November). It is one of the holiest months in the Hindu calendar has many festivals and rituals during this month.

This is the most anticipated month of the year for people of Odisha. Kartika Brata is observed for all 30 days of the Kartika month. For Hindus, a Kartika Brata is said to bring joy to life and spiritual fulfillment, as this is the most sacred month of the supreme gods in Hinduism, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The completion of the month marks the end of Kartika Brata; on the final day of the Kartika month is ‘Kartika Purnima’ (full moon day of Kartika). It signifies the end of the holy Kartika month; on this day, devotees take a bath at Pancha Tirtha of Puri, and afterwards, they visit Jagannath Temple for Darshan of Lord Jagannath.

The last five days of the month are known as ‘Panchuka’, and it has the most auspicious significance. During Panchuka, a huge number of pilgrim/dedicated visitors came from all of the surrounding areas to Puri to experience Puri Jagannath Temple Darshan of Lord Jagannath. There are one hundred thousand to five hundred thousand visitors who come, sometimes more or less. Lord Jagannath is worshipped along with Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra, and Lord Sudarshana. Throughout the Panchuka period, all three Deities are dressed in five different Veshas (attires) every day during Panchuka.

Deepawali, the festival of lights, is celebrated on the Amavasya tithi, the fifteenth day of the Kartika month every year. Diwali represents a spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Kartika Amavasya is also observed as Kali Puja. In Odisha and many parts of Eastern India, a goddess Kali is worshipped on this day. It is also known as Shyama Kali Puja.
Anla Navami is celebrated on the ninth day (Kartika Shukla Nabami) of the Kartika month in Odisha. This day is very special at Sakhigopala Temple near Puri, where on this day devotees get darshan of the feet of the idol of Goddess Radha in the Sakhigopala Temple.
