Paradip is a port town located on the Mahanadi River’s mouth, approximately 95 kilometers from Cuttack. The need for a major lighthouse arose as a result of the establishment of a major port at Paradip in the 1960s. Construction on the 40m RCC circular tower began in December 1982 and was completed in March 1987.

The port of Paradip has an artificial lagoon-type harbor that is protected by two rubble mounds known as “Break Waters” and is accessible via a dredged channel. The North Break Water is 538 meters long on the port’s north-eastern side, and the South Break Water is 1217 meters long on the port’s south-eastern side.
A towering lighthouse has also been built on the beach to keep watch and for other surveillance purposes. The tower, on the other hand, welcomes visitors who want to see it from the inside.
