Phalguna Month Calendar (February-March) 2025

The halguna month in the Hindu calendar happens between February and March and begins with the Magha Purnima celebration that marks the end of the month of Magha and the beginning of Phalguna.

Dola Purnima is celebrated on the full moon’s day or the fifteenth day of the Phalguna month, where the devotees worship the divine couple Goddess Radha and Lord Krishna. This celebration is associated with spring; thus, it is celebrated with immense joy and love by the people of Odisha. Dola Purnima is the time when Jagannath, along with his siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra, at the Dola Yatra to Dola Vedi. The idols are placed on a beautifully decorated palanquin to go around the Dola Vedi.

Devotees will also perform a Dola Dance while dressed in bright traditional clothing. The festival is associated with love, harmony and peace and is celebrated by the people of Puri. In the villages of Odisha, during Dola Jatra, the idol of Lord Krishna is carried house to house in a decorated palanquin, with the Sankirtan Mandali out in procession lumious with drummers, singers and musicians. Each house in the village presents a unique offering fit for Lord Krishna, called Bhoga. As the devotees move through the procession, they throw dry colours which is known as Abira as a marks of jubilation.
