Bhitarkanika is a national park located on the eastern coast of the Bay of Bengal. It covers an area of 650 square kilometers in Kendrapara district. Bhitarkanika consists of Bhitarkanika National Park, Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary, and Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary. The second largest mangrove forest in the country, it was designated a sanctuary in 1975 to protect estuarine crocodiles and turtles in their rare mangrove habitat.

Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park are renowned as India’s “Mini-Amazon”. It is our country’s second biggest mangrove habitat, after the Sundarbans, and is located on the Bay of Bengal coast. Dangamal Nature Camp, Habalikhati, and Gupti Nature Camps are all located inside Bhitarkanika and provide beautiful lodgings as well as a variety of food and specialties. The waterways of Bhitarkanika have the world’s biggest concentration of saltwater crocodiles. Crocodiles, spotted deer, wild pigs, and thousands of colorful birds, including winter migration from Central Asia and Europe, are frequently spotted here.

The sanctuary also houses water monitor lizards and king cobras. The estuarine soil of the Bhitarakanika sanctuary contains approximately 62 different kinds of mangroves. Mangrove trees naturally grow in submerged salty tidal forest areas. The mangrove forest is a popular habitat for shrimp and prawns, which are commercially produced in these areas.

Dangamal Nature Camp

  • It is located inside the Bhitarkanika National Park.
  • Guests can reach Dangamal by boat from Gupti and Khola or they can also reach by road via Rajnagar and Khola entry points.
  • From here you can visit the Dangamal Museum.
  • Boat library for Children at Dangamal to study numerous subjects

Habalikhati Nature Camp

  • This nature camp is a beach resort
  • It is located on the beach inside the Bhitarkanika National Park.
  • From here visitors can see hundreds of Dolphins marching in the sea.
  • On the turtle hatching time, Olive riddle turtles came here to lay their eggs.
  • Guests can reach here by boat from Gupti.
  • All the luxurious rooms are sea-facing and have modern amenities.
  • This nature camp has 4 types of rooms.

  • This nature camp is located on the banks of the Patasala River, inside the forest of Bhitarkanika National Park.
  • It is the entry point of the National Park.
