The stunning Orissa High Court Museum, located in Cuttack, Odisha, is a high court-converted museum that houses a rare assortment of documents, photographs, portraits, relics, and antiques that were used by different courts during the British Raj and judgments that were passed for various trials that paved the way for the free India movement.

The Orissa High Court Museum, which was inaugurated by Chief Justice of India Deepak Misra, has been added to the list of many heritage and historic places that are being turned into museums. This colonial heritage edifice, located near Killa Fort in Cuttack, Odisha, was built in 1904 and served as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court’s residence until 2012. The building is now open to the public as a museum showcasing the glorious history of the Orissa High Court.

The museum was established to preserve and promote the history of the high court, as well as to educate children about its legacy and all of the important events that took place there. Many historic verdicts delivered by courts in Odisha during the British Raj, such as the Sambalpur judgeship in 1864 against freedom fighter Surendra Rai, and the death sentence to freedom fighter Laxman Nayak in Koraput on November 13th, have been showcased in the museum to attract visitors. Furthermore, the museum displays some decisions about property disputes of the princely states back then that were pronounced by different courts between 1895 and 1914.

To make the museum more interesting, it is also decorated with antiques and relics such as brass and wooden seals, badges, typewriters, iron chests, chairs used by various judges during the British era, and rare clocks and locks. The museum also houses antique law books and portraits of Supreme Court justices. The museum is still collecting as many exhibits as possible to make it more interesting and interactive for children.
