Tikarpada Crocodile Wildlife Sanctuary is situated 58 kilometers from Angul and 180 kilometers from Cuttack. It is positioned along the banks of the Mahanadi River. The sanctuary is spread across a 22-kilometer-long gorge that attracts many visitors. Its dense forests, rich wildlife, and crocodile sanctuary are some of the area’s most remarkable features. The name of the sanctuary comes from the nearby village of Tikarpada. Close to the Wildlife Sanctuary, there is a Nature Camp that includes a beautiful park, boating opportunities, a viewpoint, a resort, and cottages.
This sanctuary spans an area of 795.52 square kilometers. It is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in Odisha. Within this sanctuary, you can find a variety of animal and bird species, such as leopards, jungle fowl, elephants, and Indian adjutants. Tikarpada also is a breeding ground for Gharials, which are later released into the Mahanadi River. The sanctuary is a fantastic tourist destination.
